If you remain in Me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given to you. This is to my Father's glory that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. John 15:7-8
I met a couple of men about 3 months ago that changed my perspective on life forever. They were in the middle of a crisis… I mean, a crisis of which I had never even considered possible in my own life. But they weren’t the least bit shy about telling me the details. The more I listened, the more I wanted to be like them, modern day heroes of whom no one knew. Both men, wealthy beyond my wildest imagination, were not concerned about the money they had accrued over their lifetimes or money lost in a single day. I walked in on a day’s event that should have brought a huge harvest of new believers and was backed by millions of dollars these men had invested in the ministry opportunity. But that day there would be no harvest… only an honest conversation with me, and an empty field that they had dreamed would be full of new believers. One would expect them to be extremely dejected and upset over the whole thing, but they weren’t…. they were already talking about the next year and how God was going to bring a harvest. As I listened I was in awe at how these men saw money simply as a means to bring people to a saving knowledge of Christ. I’m gonna say that again for you... These men saw money as a means to bring people to a saving knowledge of Christ.
Then it hit me. I see money as “bills”. Money = house, furniture, clothes, food, cars, more, more, more, more, more………..for me.
What does bearing much fruit mean to you? What does “ask whatever you wish, and it will be given to you” mean to you? Let me offer my new perspective. God will give you whatever you wish when you finally desire to see His will done more than anything else on this planet. I had met two men who literally cared more about God’s plans than their own, and God had elevated both of them to a level of influence and power that I have never seen before. Even with all the influence and power that was under their command all they could talk about were the plans that God had for His people. What will you choose to live your life in pursuit of? I was in pursuit of more for me and God led me to two men in a field designed to hold 40-50,000. Three men, one conversation, and a life changed forever. It is the Father’s will that you and I both bear much fruit, but our will has to be aligned with His. Can you submit your life to his command??
Father God, I have lived my life in selfish pursuits for too long. No matter how many “things” I have bought or gained I always end up wanting more and feeling just as empty as I did before they were mine. God, fill me with Your word of life and give me a new perspective in which your plans take the priority and mine fade into obscurity. Amen.
